Antimonopoly Service revealed evidence of monopoly high prices of food in the 9-regions of Russia
October 10, 2007 – 8:47 amThe Government has instructed the Federal Antimonopoly Service to conduct checks on the facts of monopoly price increases for food in some regions of Russia. FAS has revealed a violation of trade laws in the 9-regions where producers and trading companies had abused their dominant position. As the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, “we have identified instances where the company maintained” products, creating an artificial shortage and waiting for their reassessment. Already in the nine regions started antitrust investigations into violations of antitrust laws. ” FAS also will meet with a large supplier of foodstuffs to discuss measures aimed at normalizing the situation. Another measure, which would defuse tensions in the market, is the proposal to reduce customs duties on imported food from 15% to 5%.
