A powerful eruption occurred in the Red Sea
October 1, 2007 – 11:43 pmPowerful eruption occurred on the island of Jabal al-Tair off the coast of Yemen. On the island were located military installations protected by 29 soldiers. According to preliminary data, during a volcanic eruption killed 3 people, 4 soldiers missing.
Yemeni Coast Guard immediately after the volcanic eruption has saved 21 of the 29 military personnel. Yemeni authorities also appealed for assistance to a group of warships of NATO, in the vicinity and to the Suez Canal en route. The ships are at sea search for survivors of troops.
According to seafarers Canadian warship involved in the rescue operation, the northern part of the island is covered with boiling lava. Volcanic eruption continues.
