Abkhazia has banned foreign aircraft flying over its territory

The letter notes that the recent increase in reconnaissance flights over the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia. The Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia will take “measures to curb the flight specified aircraft over the territory of our country.”
President of Abkhazia also noted that the Georgian air traffic control flights of foreign aircraft passing over the territory of Abkhazia international air routes UL-850 without the consent of the authority of aerial surveillance of Abkhazia, Sukhumi, which is the airport. Bagapsh said that this is a direct violation of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. It is noted that the body of air traffic Sukhumi airport is able to monitor and control the airspace over the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia around the clock.
In this regard, President Sergei Bagapsh sent to ICAO notice that henceforth the movement of civilian aircraft International route UL-850 should be implemented only in agreement with the authority of air traffic Republic of Abkhazia. “Otherwise, Abkhazia does not guarantee the safety of aircraft flying over its territory without the necessary approvals”, – stated in the letter.
